“And you may ask yourself, how did I get here?”
A great lyric borrowed from the Talking Heads’ iconic song Once In A Lifetime. If you clicked here, you’ve just started an incredible journey that will forever change your life and the lives of others.
Many people often contemplate but rarely follow through with plans to do something incredible with their lives. In more developed communities, it comes down to a choice. We may want to do something but for whatever reason, don’t follow through. No time, no money, no ideas. We still live our lives, but may not realize our life’s purpose. In the developed world, these choices create degrees of happiness. In poorer communities, it is a question of survival. Global poverty and the barrier it creates in the lives of young children is a self-perpetuating cycle that affords no room for growth. Without a safe place to live, clean water, nutritious food, and access to adequate health care, their dreams are put on the back burner and survival is the day’s only goal. If they survive adolescence, they become parents themselves and the struggle for survival continues in the next generation.
OUR APPROACH – We believe everyone has value and purpose; everyone has something to offer; and everyone can make a difference in the lives of others – rich or poor. We believe, as Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus does, that “POVERTY IS NOT CREATED BY POOR PEOPLE BUT BY THEIR CIRCUMSTANCES.” We seek to work with volunteers who are willing to dedicate their gifts to helping at-risk children find theirs. Trellis Arch provides children with the education they need to cultivate their dreams. We nurture, mentor and train them to become difference-makers on a global scale.
VOLUNTEER! Trellis Arch welcomes volunteers from all walks of life to assist in providing educational resources to at-risk children around the world. We break the cycle of poverty by providing an enabling environment for young minds to safely grow, gain a quality education, and achieve their dreams. Once these children unleash their energy and creativity, they become unstoppable and poverty vanishes from their communities.
SERVING OTHERS – The great stoic philosopher Lucius Annaeus Seneca urged us to “associate with people who are likely to improve you and welcome those whom you are capable of improving. The process is a mutual one: we learn as we teach.” He also declared, “No one can lead a happy life if he thinks only of himself and turns everything to his own purposes.”
One of the world’s most recognized and loved servants was Mother Teresa. She proclaimed, “We must know that we have been created for greater things, not just to be a number in the world.”
OUR PLAN –
- Raise funds through corporate donors, grants and individual contributions
- Provide educational resources to at-risk children in struggling communities in India, Nepal, Uganda, Haiti, and the United States
- Create short and long-term “hands-on” volunteer opportunities for team members all around the world
- Empower children everywhere with literacy and numeracy skills to break the cycle of poverty
- To partner with like-minded organizations to tackle the root causes of poverty, injustice, and suffering
- Measure our success one child at a time
JOIN OUR TEAM – “Since you cannot do good to all, you are to pay special attention to those who, by the accidents of time, or place, or circumstances, are brought into closer connection with you.” – Saint Augustine
Trellis Arch seeks team members and provides assistance to others regardless of their abilities, race, gender identity, religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation, status, favorite color, or musical preferences. No labels, no judging…we don’t have time for that. Our differences make us stronger!
